Hops are the female flower clusters of a hop species and are used primarily as a flavoring and stability agent in beer, to which they communicate a sour tangy flavor. Hops are also employed for numerous purposes in other drinks and natural medication. Hops began to be cultivated on a continuing basis round the 8th or 9th century AD in Bohemian gardens in the Hallertau district of Bavaria and other parts of Europe. However , the first documented use of hops in beer as a bittering agent is from the eleventh century.
Among the biggest obstacles that producers of Southern Italian wine face are those of prejudice and ignorance. Southern Italy is a source of lots of Italian bulk wine. All 6 areas of the South manufacture approximately fourty percent of Italian wine and approximately seven % of DOC wines, nevermind DOCG wines. When people think about Southern Italian wine, they may not always be in a position to recall delicious wines because the market has never really been bursting with them, as Southern Italian wine has been jug wine.
The world is forever shifting, forever changing… This isn’t different when it comes to wine. Interestingly, during the past year there has been discussion about Champagne estates buying land in the United Kingdom. Reason being, if global climate change is true, the United Kingdom will have the correct terroir for Champagne varietals. Nevertheless, what has really caught my attention isn’t what will happen to vineyards and wineries when global climate change becomes an issue… Rather, what has actually got my attention is the expansion of vineyards and wineries in China.
The vine has an extensive history in Southern Italy. Oenotria, the land of vines, is what the Greeks lovingly dubbed the latter-day ‘Mezzogiorno,’ the southern portion of the Italian boot along with Sicily. Southern Italy was effectively a Greek colony in the times before Christ, so much so, that the South was dubbed ‘Magna Graecia,’ literally ‘Greater Greece.’ When the Greeks colonised Southern Italy they brought with them one of the tell-tale signs of civilization: the vine.
