Wine Cellar Basics And Conditions

Maybe you have quite a collection of wine and decide to build a wine cellar, or perhaps you moved into a home that has an old wine cellar and you want to begin using it. The idea of a wine cellar is not just a place to store your wine, but storing it so that it is in an ideal environment to age to its perfection.

If you are going to build the wine cellar, the first thing you need to do is decide how large it will be and where it will be located. The factor that will determine the size of the wine cellar is the amount of wine you have. If you already own several hundred bottles of wine, you’re going to need more space than if you’re collection has around 50 bottles.

There should be a humidity level of about 65% and a steady temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit to create the condition that’s necessary for your wine to reach perfection. These conditions are ideal for the long term storage of wine. This cooler temperature slows the aging process, which is what you want if you’re storing wine long term. The recommended humidity level will prevent moisture from getting into the bottles.

Northern areas of the country are ideal naturally for wine cellars because they tend to be cooler with the right amount of humidity. If you live in a dryer or warmer climate, you will have to add the conditioning to create the right wine-storing environment.

Fortunately, there are some excellent wine cooling systems that make it possible to create the perfect climate conditions in your wine cellar. You can have a successful wine cellar even if you live in a hot, dry part of the country.

If you are building your wine cellar, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, your wall framing should be 2″ x 6″ and the ceiling frame should be 2″ x 8″ with polyethylene vapor barrier added to the ceiling and walls. You can use drywall for the sheathing, but it needs to be moisture resistant. The flooring as well needs to be moisture resistant, so opt for stone or hardwoods.

Proper construction is critical when you’re building your own wine cellar. Otherwise, your wine may age too quickly or the room could have too much moisture.

If the house you live in already has a wine cellar in the basement, you are lucky indeed. You will want to purchase a wall thermometer that will check both the humidity and temperature. If the home has a very old wine cellar, you are in for a real treat. You will be able to add your wine, wondering how many other bottles of fine wine have graced those shelves through the years.

Finally, a wine cellar is a fun way to store your precious bottles of wine and allow them to age with perfection. It gives you room to store future bottles of wine and add to your collection through the years.

Exotic Fruit Martini Cocktails

If you like to learn about cocktails, you have certainly learned that being familiar with all recipes of cocktails is practically impossible. You might ask “why”? The main reason is that there are many recipes which are known by extremely small groups or communities of people; and some cocktails are even known just by the people who created them. But the uncountable number of cocktails is not the only thing which we know for sure. Another fact known for sure is that martini is the most popular and loved cocktail of all times.

Perhaps, you don’t know much about the history of martini as they appeared long time ago, especially in comparison to the other cocktails. At first, martinis were prepared only in top discos, clubs and bars and their price used to be really high. Then, a little bit later, martinis could be found almost in every club and bar no matter whether it was a five-star one or not. Logically, the price went down significantly at that time. And at last, came the times which we live in now. I am talking about the times when we are able to prepare a jug of martini in our home whenever we feel like “partying”. But the greatest thing about martini is that there are hundreds of recipes in existence and you can always experiment by using different fruits: it could be apple, pineapple, peach and many others. The classic “lime martini” is still loved by many people but there is definitely severe competition struggling to conquer the first place.

However, there is a group of martinis which has become quite popular recently. These are the martinis containing exotic fruit juices. For instance, that could be lime, pineapple, lychee and even raspberry. We are not going to discuss the lime and pineapple juices as they were just mentioned. But the lychee and raspberry fruits definitely need to get their fair share, especially when the surveys show that these two variations of martini cocktails have gained more popularity than any other cocktail (not only among the martini). It sounds like a huge success, doesn’t it?

Perhaps, it would be best if we started with the more exotic fruit: lychee! Here is some background about this amazing fruit: it was cultivated in China 4000 years ago but its Thailand is considered to be the country it originates from! Determining the taste of lychee is pretty difficult as the most accurate adjective would probably be “specific”. However, if we need to choose among bitter, sweet and sour; it’s somewhere in the middle between bitter and sour. Of course, the sour taste should not be a surprise to you if you know that lychee contains nearly as much vitamin C as the limes and lemons do!

And now, let’s take a look at the raspberries. They are definitely much more popular than the lychee which explains why they are not going to be discussed so widely. Basically, these are small, round and red fruits tasting quite specifically. Their taste is neither bitter nor sweet, not even sour- they just need to be tasted. Anyway, raspberries definitely taste quite good! Surprisingly, their taste is much more different than the lime (respectively lychee) which makes their usage in many martini’ recipes quite unusual. Even though your raspberry martini may not taste like what you are used to, you can be sure that you’ll love it!

Brewing Recipes – It’s Tasty To Brew Your Own Beer

More and more people try to homebrew alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages in their own homes. And as in the commercial market, the beer is the most bought alcohol so in the household brewing, beer is the most brewed beverage. Of course this is due to the fact that many people choose to create a unique beer style which best fits their taste. Different beers have different beer styles and beer styles differ on the producing method and ingredients used. And from different producing methods and ingredients each beer receives a unique aroma, taste, palate and other characteristics that a good beer possesses. Palate however is the most appreciated characteristic. It basically means the feeling you get from drinking the beer, how hard it hits you and other such indications.

However there are also other characteristics which should be taken in mind. Sweetness, strength, bitterness and appearance are also characteristics of the high quality beer. Bitterness is achieved by changing the herbs used and the proportions between different ingredients thus giving you the opportunity to increase or decrease it. Sweetness depends on the amount of sugar while strength is determined by the level of fermentation of the yeasts and fermentation temperatures. However appearance is the most valued characteristic of the beer, because it is the first thing that a man or woman sees in the beverage. Under appearance we mean the clarity, aroma, matte and color of the beer.

There are two main beer styles – Ale and Lager. Ale beer is made by using only high quality fermented yeasts which are fermented at temperatures higher than those at which the lager beer is fermented. At those temperatures the yeasts will produce many other flavors and aromas allowing the brewer to customize the beer to the desired taste. However ale beer is more expensive than lager beer to the quality of the ingredients used and the more complex brewing process.

The lager beer on the other hand is the most commonly drunk beer. It is cheaper than the ale and is easier to create. The first people who started to produce lager beer lived in Central Europe. The yeasts used for the lager are of decent quality and ferment at lower temperatures and afterwards the beer is stored at 0-3C. When the second stage of storing begins the lager will clear and mellow. The cooler temperatures will increase the production of products from the herbs used thus giving a softer taste to the lager. The modern lager beer has usually a light color and is highly carbonated and many people enjoy drinking it more than ale.

Beer is surely one of the alcohol beverages which have been around us for the past centuries. Many of the modern commercial beer producers follow old traditions in the beer producing method. However the homebrewing of beer can result in top quality flavor depending on your taste thus allowing you to enjoy the beer even more. Of course ale and lager are just the main beer styles there are also many others which differ by production method, herbs and fermentation processes.
